ArcGIS (Esri) Software

The University has a campus wide site licence in place for Esri software, which includes ArcGIS desktop applications, ArcGIS Online and Esri training.

Information about the Esri site licence (updated 1st August 2023)

A 3-year campus site licence for ArcGIS (Esri) products is in place, which is active until 31st July 2026.

The agreement provides teaching and research access to the following geographic mapping products: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and legacy ArcGIS Desktop products (ArcMap). It also provides access to Esri training.

ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

For new users of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online:

ArcGIS Pro is available on Windows devices via AppsAnywhere. To access ArcGIS Pro software, a named-user ArcGIS Online login is required, which can be requested via the ArcGIS Online request form linked to this knowledge article (see related requests).

The ArcGIS Online access form can be completed for individuals, or a member of staff can request access for a cohort of students.

There is a separate ArcGIS Online portal available for people needing to access ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro for administrative use (i.e. not for teaching, learning or research use). This can also be requested via the ArcGIS Online request form linked to this knowledge article (see related requests).

For existing ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online users:

Once you have an ArcGIS Online account, you do not need to renew this annually; your access will remain until you leave the University.

Information about the legacy version of ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap 10.x versions)

ArcMap (ArcGIS Desktop 10.x) is being retired in March 2024. Esri will continue to make ArcMap licences available from August 2023- 31st July 2024, but after July next year, the product will be unavailable for use.

ArcMap will be available for use on Windows devices via AppsAnywhere from August 2023 - July 2024 but will then be retired.

The following licences will be available for ArcMap, until 31st July 2024:

The University ArcGIS licence manager has now been updated, to keep the AppsAnywhere version of ArcGIS Desktop 10.x working, as well as local installations that point to the University of Leeds licence manager.

Updated licence codes (for an offline activation of a locally installation version of ArcMap) are provided via the Updating your ArcGIS Desktop 10.x licence knowledge article- see related article.
