What is Microsoft Teams Premium?

Microsoft Teams Premium is a new Microsoft 365 subscription service which comes at an additional cost to our current Microsoft licensing model. Microsoft has provisionally rolled out the premium features to all Microsoft users (not just the University of Leeds) prior to announcing that the features will be removed for all users at the end of June 2023. The features that will no longer be available at the end of June include Customise Meeting Templates, Read live translated captions during meetings, and Translate post-meeting transcriptions. This timeline is subject to change. No original Teams standard features will be lost post-June 2023.

Microsoft Teams Premium is currently in a grace period. Microsoft has confirmed that the additional Teams Premium features (listed in the introduction of this article) will become part of the Microsoft Teams Premium service, which the University has not subscribed to. The grace period for Read live translated captions during meetings, and Translate post-meeting transcriptions, has been confirmed to end on 30th June 2023. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. At present, there are no plans to subscribe to Microsoft Teams Premium due to continued discussion surrounding our current and future support structures across IT.
