VLC Media Player


What is it?

VLC Media Player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

Where is it available?

VLC Media Player is available on the Cluster Desktop, the Virtual Windows Desktop (via AppsAnywhere) and for installation on networked computers via the Software Center - see the 'How to install software to your work PC via the Software Center' article. Installation on non-networked computers is available via the Request Software link.

University staff and students can obtain the software for home installation for free fromĀ VLC Download. Select the appropriate operating system using the pull-down menu next to download LC button.
