What is Microsoft Delve?

What is it?

Delve searches through all your Office 365 content (in your OneDrive folders, SharePoint, Yammer and Outlook) and displays things you are working on at the moment or may be relevant to you. That includes your own private content, content which has been shared with you, or any publicly available material on SharePoint.

What do I use it for?

You can use Delve to see popular documents. The 'Home' view shows you popular documents based on when they were uploaded, how the authors or editors are connected to you, etc. It's often a mix of documents you worked on yourself and documents that are active among people you work with. Delve doesn't change permissions, so it only shows you content you already have access to. Clicking on 'Me' will show you you the documents you have recently been working on. You can also search for documents across all the information Delve has access to.

Who is it available to?

Microsoft Delve is available to all University staff and students.

How do I access it?

You can access Microsoft Delve via the Office 365 portal at: https://office365.leeds.ac.uk

Concerned that private or sensitive documents are available in Delve?

Any document that a user can view or edit in Microsoft 365, can also appear in Delve. Delve doesn't change any permissions and users will only see documents they already have access to.

Solution(s):

  • Check the permission settings for the documents, sites and libraries to make sure that only the intended users have access to the content
  • If you can see a document you don't think you should have access to, contact the owner of the document and ask them to check the share permissions

Data Privacy

Delve does not change any permissions, so you'll only have a view onto documents that you already have access to. Other people will not be able to see your private documents that are not shared with them.
