Setting up email on iOS (iPhone and iPad)


The following instructions show how to setup Office 365 e-mail on an iPhone or an iPad. This tutorial was created using iOS 17 but the process should be similar for older versions of the operating system or newer versions going forward.

PLEASE NOTE: Outlook app for iOS is compatible with iOS version 16 or higher.

University of Leeds IT recommends the use of the official Microsoft Outlook app in order to access emails and calendar, including Shared Mailbox accounts.

To Download the official Microsoft Outlook app from the App Store, follow the below instructions:

On your iPhone, open the App Store app

Search for the word "Outlook" to find the official app as shown below, and press Get

Once downloaded, open the Outlook app and tap Add Account

Add your University of Leeds account in the following format: username@leeds.ac.uk

Once you enter your account and press Add Account, the app will recognise the account being a Microsoft account and will take to you the Microsoft authentication page to enter your password

You will then be asked to authenticate via Duo Two Factor authentication

Once you authenticate, you will then be taken to your mailbox where you can view your emails or compose new ones

Please note the Outlook app is a unified mailing app and can be used to setup multiple accounts including non-Microsoft accounts.
