What to do if you're locked out of your account

If you enter the wrong username and password combination more than three times, then your account will lock. When an account is locked, you will have to wait (usually 30 minutes) before it unlocks on its own.

An account will only lock if the incorrect username and password are entered more than three times. There is no other reason. This happens when either:

  1. You enter the wrong details
  2. Someone else tries to log into your account using the wrong details
  3. A device (such as a laptop or a phone) attempts to log into a University system using cached (remembered) log in details, such as in a web browser or a phone. 

Even when you then enter the correct log in details, if the account is locked, then it will not work.

When you change your password, it changes it on all University systems. It is your responsibility to change it on all your devices (laptops, phones, tablets etc.)

If you think your account is locked, then leave it for about 30 minutes and try again.
