How to connect a gaming console or Internet TV in your room

Find out how to connect your games console and Internet TV in your hall of residence

Current games consoles and Internet TVs won't be able to connect to the wireless network as we use a technology called 802.1x. You'll need to use the wired connection. Once you have connected your console/TV (your site office has cables if required) you will need to register your device on the residence network.

PS4 browser

For devices with web browsers, go to http://netreg4.leeds.ac.uk/ and enter your username (not your email address) and password as normal. For example, on the Playstation 4, open up the built in web browser. It should automatically redirect you to the correct page, where you will be prompted to enter your username and password.

Consoles, TVs and other devices that do not have a web browser can be registered manually at http://netreg4.leeds.ac.uk/manualreg.html from your laptop or phone. You can also follow this guide if you have problems connecting your Playstation or Xbox. You will need the MAC address of the device.

Finding your Playstation MAC address

This guide was created using a Playstation 4, but the process is very similar for a Playstation 3.

Please ensure that the network cable is plugged into your Playstation. Switch on the device and navigate to Settings.

PS4 1

Select System and choose System Information.

Ps4 3

You should see your MAC address listed on this screen. It should be a combination of letters and numbers separated by colons.

Make a note of this MAC address, and then visit: http://netreg4.leeds.ac.uk/manualreg.html using your Playstation's web browser. Enter your username (not your e-mail address) and normal university password. This should connect your device to the wired network.

Finding your Xbox MAC address

This guide was created using an Xbox One, but the process is very similar for the 360.

Please ensure that your network cable is plugged into the Xbox. From the main home screen, select the Settings cog icon, and then select All Settings.

1

Scroll down and choose Network and then select Network Settings

2

Then select Advanced settings and make a note of the number next to Wired MAC, NOT Wireless Mac. It should be a combination of letters and numbers separated by colons. This is the address you need to enter into the registration page mentioned above. Your Xbox may automatically start downloading the latest updates once it is connected to the Internet.
